Lesson One
What does it mean to be green?
- Facilitate a discussion on what it means to be green?
- If students are unsure explain the meaning and provide some examples of being green and not being green so they can differentiate between the two
- Ask students if they have ever heard of the word sustainability
- Write it down, get the students to sound it out, count the syllables - become familiar with the word
- What is sustainability?
- What is your understanding of sustainability?
- Sustainability is the capacity to keep something going without being harmful to the environment. Sustainability is when something has the ability to sustain.
- Have a look at the below images - discuss with your teacher and classmates which images you feel represent sustainability and why
- Discuss other items which you feel are sustainable
By discussing the above images students should begin to make the connections that being green and sustainable items are good for the environment. Its all about assisting the environment to create what we need to live now without jeopardizing the planet for future generations. If something is deemed sustainable it should be able to continue on forever.
